Burntwood

Fabrication and installation of twin MBBR aeration systems, sieves, and stainless steel pipework at Burntwood WwTW for Veolia

Bartec was contracted by Veolia to supply and install the full mechanical aeration package for the twin MBBR process tanks at Burntwood Wastewater Treatment Works, part of Severn Trent’s AMP programme.

The scope involved the in-house fabrication of:

  • Two coarse bubble aeration systems (3 grids per 12.0m diameter tank) using 304 stainless steel with laser-perforated laterals and bolted flange joints

  • 32 fully welded media retaining sieves, 400mm flanged tees, and 16 stainless steel support structures

  • 150mm stainless steel blower distribution pipework and risers, with structural brackets and EPDM gaskets

  • Drain covers and three Filtrax sample tanks, manufactured to Veolia specifications

On site, Bartec installed all fabricated components as well as three Aerzen GM90 blowers, valves, and free-issue instrumentation. Installation was carried out under restricted access confined space procedures, with pre-assembled grid sections lifted into place using contract lift cranes.

The project also included lagging of low-level blower pipework for personnel protection. All works were completed in line with WIMES standards, including third-party dye-penetrant and visual weld inspections.

This project highlights Bartec’s proven capability to deliver large-scale stainless steel process systems within live wastewater treatment environments under Tier 1 contractor and water authority standards.
