Mechanical refurbishment at Grendon Underwood WwTW, including ductile iron pipework, stainless steel weir box fabrication, and confined space installation for Kier
Bartec was contracted by Kier to deliver a full mechanical installation and refurbishment package at Grendon Underwood Wastewater Treatment Works as part of a site-wide upgrade.
Our works included the supply and installation of ductile iron pipework, fabricated to BS-EN 598 standards, across multiple process areas including the Inlet Works, Return Liquor Pumping Station, and Storm Tank Modifications.
A key element of the project involved the fabrication and installation of a bespoke stainless steel weir box and scum board, fixed directly to the storm tank structure. All components were fabricated in-house to ensure full quality control and dimensional accuracy.
Due to the nature of the site, much of the installation required confined space access, delivered under strict safety procedures including top-man rescue systems, gas detection, and certified confined space teams.
Bartec’s scope also included the removal of existing redundant pipework and pumps, the installation of new free-issue submersible and PC pumps, and trace heating and lagging of critical lines.
This project demonstrates Bartec’s capability to safely deliver complex mechanical packages involving both standard and bespoke fabrications within live water treatment environments.
