Complete mechanical installation of MBBR, Disc Filter, chemical dosing, and associated pipework systems at Heathrow WwTW for Veolia
Bartec was contracted by Veolia to deliver the complete mechanical installation package for the Heathrow Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTW), supporting the installation of new biological treatment and sludge handling infrastructure.
The project included the fabrication, supply, and installation of a wide range of mechanical systems across all process streams:
MBBR process pipework, including 316 stainless steel trubore inlet and outlet lines (Ø400–Ø500), bypass arrangements, and recirculation headers
Aeration blower manifolds and distribution lines, with delivery to fine bubble diffusers across multiple MBBR tanks
Media retaining sieves, sieve manifolds, and support structures fabricated and installed per Veolia's specifications
Disc Filter system installation, including flocculation and coagulation tank outlet pipework, sludge lines, and overflow bypasses
Chemical dosing systems, including dual-contained flexible piping, tank positioning, bund installation, and dosing cabinet mounting
Sludge thickener, filtrate sump, and sludge storage tank connections, with full integration of free-issue mechanical equipment and instrumentation
Potable and service water pipework networks using crimped stainless systems, delivering to safety showers, chemical areas, and washdown points
Installation of mixers, submersible pumps, valves, instruments, and connection points across all areas of the site
Pressure testing of all process pipework and final mechanical completion documentation
The installation required detailed coordination of crane lifts, confined space entry, and off-site prefabrication, with over 20 weeks of on-site delivery. All works were carried out in line with WIMES standards and Veolia's model requirements, with phased handovers for commissioning.
This project showcases Bartec’s ability to manage and deliver large-scale, multi-system mechanical installations, ensuring full integration of process-critical systems across water treatment infrastructure.
