Oatly MBBR Mechanical
Fabrication and installation of MBBR aeration grids, sieves, and internal stainless steel components at Oatly WwTW for Veolia
Bartec was appointed by Veolia to carry out the mechanical fabrication and installation of internal MBBR components at Oatly Wastewater Treatment Works, supporting the new biological treatment process.
The works included:
Fabrication of two coarse bubble aeration systems, each consisting of four stainless steel grid sections with laser-cut laterals and flanged joints, mounted to tank bases using chemical anchors
Supply and installation of two media retaining sieves with support frames and integrated air sparge headers, fabricated from 304 stainless steel
Manufacture and delivery of two drain sieve top hats designed to capture and retain media within each tank
Off-site preassembly of all grid sections to reduce on-site handling and speed up installation
Full site installation of the above, carried out under restricted access confined space procedures, using laser levelling and temporary internal supports
All fabrication was completed in-house with delivery to site via low loader transport. Crane lifts were used to lower internal assemblies into place, and installation was carried out by Bartec’s confined space-trained operatives.
This project demonstrates Bartec’s ability to deliver bespoke mechanical installations within live wastewater environments—combining fabrication quality, efficient logistics, and safe, confined space execution.
